Welcome to the blog portion of this ministry. To introduce myself as Rose the personal trainer, mom, wife, Nationally Certified Pilates instructor, PCES corrective exercise specialist, etc would be a distraction from who I really am. I am a "child of God" and "worthy of His love." My identity used to be in the things I listed above, including my work as a whole. When COVID-19 shutdowns took place, a lot of people could agree that there was a traumatic experience with the shutdown of businesses and even closing of businesses. God has shown me that when I was in a frenzy during the time the gym I work at was closed, my response was one of worldly identity. I had put my identity and worth in my work. I put so many things before God when it came to who I thought I was and what I did. There are reasons for this and will be for another blog entry.
Today, I want to focus on how to get from identity through the things and people of this world, to finding identity in God. What does that mean for us? What benefits do we have by claiming our identity as "a child of God"? Is there freedom with God? How does Spirit Soul Body Balanced take Pilates and other forms of movement and bring glory to God?
Did you know we were all given "spiritual gifts" and not one single person has all the gifts? The things we enjoy, have a passion for, and are good at, are gifts from God. I will have another blog specific to these gifts later. The programs included in the paid services will help you explore these gifts more. God created us in His image and gave each of us a purpose. God holds all the gifts and shared them with us. He was the best doctor, counselor, pharmacist, teacher, giver, administrator, etc...
1 Peter 4:10 NLT "God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another."
1 Thessalonians 5:23 ESV "Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Our spirit is our connection to God through the Holy Spirit. We all have a spiritual desire that needs to be fulfilled. Many people search for spiritual connection and fulfillment in things or people and wonder why it still feels like something is missing or that maybe there is more meaningful things in life.
Our Soul is all things brain. Our thoughts, feelings, conscience, state of mind, desires, etc. This is the realm that the enemy oftentimes infiltrates. We create stories in our mind about ourselves, others, God, and our identity. If our spirit isn't fulfilled by the Holy Spirit, the enemy can start to influence not only our soul but also our spirit. We can become confused about who we are and our purpose. Remember those spiritual gifts? The enemy knows if you use them you will be serving God and your purpose, and that would mean God wins.
The Body is what we are here on Earth. Our physical presence and provides us with the ability to do things. We get to choose what we do with our body. These choices can be based off what the world tells us to do with our body or what God advises us to do. Our God is gracious and knows that our body is not eternal. We get to make mistakes with this body and learn from them. We get to see how taking care of our body can bring us a good quality of life and can allow us the opportunity to use our spiritual gifts.
The reality is that we can't have a rockin' body, great ideas with anger issues, and no spiritual connection. We can't have the best connection with God spiritually while making unhealthy decisions about our diet and health and still have a healthy body. All three of these parts must be working together in a balanced manner in order to get the full benefits. This does not mean we won't struggle in each of these areas. This does mean that if we aren't working on each of these parts, our whole self will be lacking something. Confusion happens and self-worth can be compromised. If we don't feel good about ourselves it's hard to have loving thoughts about others, especially the people that have hurt us.
Galations 5:14-15 NIV "For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other."
God is the God of love. The fact that love exists is because God loved first by creating us and sending Jesus to this Earth to die for our sins. Our freedom comes from God's gift and the forgiveness Jesus brought to Earth. Freedom is knowing the truth which is written in the Bible. At one time I believed all the Bible did was shame me. After COVID-19 shutdowns, I turned to God for answers. He showed me book after book and devotion after devotion that proved me wrong. These books and devotions showed me that there is freedom with God. I have issues with setting boundaries, God sent me to read all the Boundaries books by Dr Cloud and Dr Townsend. I had been sexually abused and God sent me several different books. My marriage is not great and He showed me a variety of books and devotions. I felt God leading me to do more with my business and He showed me my spiritual gifts as well as taking me to the opposite side of the world to show me how to use them. All of the books I have read included Bible verses that proved, God does not shame us for our struggles with sin. He builds us up, forgives us, loves us, and gives us freedom in His living word.
The name of this business was God's inspiration and how He works in and through me. This business survives because God continues to bring me people like you to share His love, kindness, and help them find a quality of life that allows them to continue to work on their spiritual gifts. I haven't been great at running this business for Him because I'm human and I sin. I am a work in progress. This business survived COVID-19 and I have not advertised. Word of mouth speaks a lot and this has been a referral-based business from the beginning. Clients come and go. Each client gives me a different experience, piece of knowledge, and influence on me. If I get an opening in my schedule because a client moves and I think it's time to quit this business, God sends another person that needs my help. I have little control over this business and every time I think I'm done, God refreshes me. He sent me to Central Asia in September to be inspired to not hide my faith in Him. God is working non-stop to fight the enemy and protect the people He loves.
My passion for helping people have a better quality of life originates from multiple relatives that appeared to suffer as they aged. The list of medications were oftentimes long. The sedentary life left them in pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia. Hip fractures led to a lot of eventual deaths in my family. Every family member we have lost has left me sad and had an impact on me. God showed me these things and inspired me to enjoy fitness and notice how strong I feel because I keep moving. God even had me working in a pain management clinic to see how people are using pain killer medications to take away their pain. I learned a lot about the spine and saw a lot of lives negatively impacted by these drugs.
The experience you will have training with me, will not be to make you skinny, instead you will feel strong. Your confidence will improve and you may find yourself feeling closer to God over time. This business is my ministry for His kingdom on Earth. You learn to find strength in all three parts and create a better quality of life through movement. Pilates is my area of focus, however, I believe all modalities of exercise are great. Just like our spirit, soul, and body need equal amounts of work, each exercise modality has its benefits. We eat a variety of foods and stay away from some foods because they don't agree with our body. There may be exercises you don't like for whatever reasons, maybe Pilates gets you feeling strong and leads you to resistance training. As humans, we evolve. We get older, wiser, more experienced, and our body works differently. We should move accordingly while continuing to work on the 5 components of fitness (muscular strength, muscular endurance, BMI, cardiovascular strength, and flexibility). The key is, we keep moving. I'm not sure who first said this, "Motion is Lotion." I do know Joseph Pilates said, "Change happens through movement and movement heals." Our quality of life involves three parts. Spirit Soul Body Balanced uses movement to bring balance to your life. I look forward to getting to know you.
