Frequently asked questions
General
No, all appointments and classes will need to be scheduled at least 2 hours before the start of class. We require a private lesson prior to joining a class for your safety and to get the most out of classes.
At SSBB Pilates, Quality over Quantity is our priority. Class sizes range from 4 in a reformer class, to 10 in a mat Pilates class. Class sizes will vary depending upon the class format and the amount of attention that will be needed in order to provide quality training.
Currently, the only online offer I have is through private lessons. If you have a place to exercise or a reformer, I can teach you Pilates online. I do not stream classes online as of now.
No, SSBB Pilates includes any associated business fees in the cost of the plans. SSBB Pilates reserves the right to increase prices as needed to help cover costs of doing business. There are no plans with locked in pricing available. Please know that you will be given and paying the best price available. SSBB Pilates does not run ‘sales’ on package plans but may include special offers on drop in classes or community building events.
The reasons behind requiring a private lesson prior to joining a class setting, is to insure you feel safe and getting the most out of the classes that you take. Each person is different and at a different level. The private lesson gives Rose the opportunity to learn more about your health history, movement compensations, and so much more. The “Getting Started” plan is where all new members will begin. This gives you a demonstration of what you can expect from SSBB Pilates.
This is a question that is asked a lot. The training to be a Pilates instructor costs thousands of dollars, a lot of hours of education and experience, continuing education to maintain certification, and the equipment is expensive to purchase. The education requirements for Nationally Certified Pilates instructors is much higher than what you will find in group fitness classes at a big box gym, where their certifications can be completed in 3-16 hours and cost a few hundred dollars.
No, at SSBB Pilates, class space is limited to paying participants. You can visit our YouTube channel to take a peek at a few of the classes that are offered in the studio. *You are welcome to request a 15 minute complimentary phone call or in person meeting at the studio to discuss any questions or concerns that you have. Faith + Nutrition will be offered for free on the first Tuesday of the month at 11:00 AM to anyone that would like to learn and get ongoing support with Faith and Nutrition coaching.
Yes! This package is a great way to get a personalized assessment during a private training session and the opportunity to try one of our classes. You will also receive a pair of grip socks and use of our app.
No, SSBB Pilates is not a medical facility. However, you could check with your insurance provider to find out if you can pay for Pilates using an HSA/FSA. You may need to request a prescription from a doctor to get reimbursement or to pay for Pilates with your HSA/FSA account. Yes, at SSBB Pilates, although I am trying to make all aspects of Pilates accessible with my combo plan, as it was intended to be practiced. Using all the equipment and props that Joseph invented, lends a different experience of an exercise. I offer a variety of mat classes, reformer, and Pilates equipment circuit classes to allow an opportunity to use as many pieces of Joseph’s inventions as possible. Due to the complexity of the Pilates equipment, the classes are smaller than the mat classes.

All things in life are a work in progress. The benefits of consistent Pilates practice can help your spine age appropriately. The spine will undergo changes with age but you do not want those changes to be due to a lack of care for your spine and the muscles that move it. Joseph said, “…If your spine is flexible at 60, you are young.”
Your daily activities are not exercise, although, you may do physical labor daily, it is your normal. In order to maintain and/or increase the health of our vertebral discs, they must be moved in all different directions. Similarly, muscle and bone mass changes with age if we are not using them. The muscles and bones must be challenged beyond your normal activities and it needs to be done regularly. When we are not consistent with our training, the body doesn’t think we need all the muscle and because it takes a lot of energy to maintain muscle, the body will let it atrophy (get smaller), then when you need that muscle, you have less to use, less strength. Consistency in challenging your muscles outside of daily activities, will help with metabolism and your quality of life overall.
This has multiple meanings to me and it could mean all the same things to you too. If only one meaning resonates with you, that is great too! I have a background in strength training in addition to Pilates. I do cross training myself, going to a gym to lift heavy for strength, Pilates for core, mental health, and muscular endurance (to keep my body safe while doing the other things in life), and cardio gets mixed in there with the weight training if approached with the correct intention of getting cardiovascular strength along with a daily walk or two.
The 5 components of fitness are worked on at SSBB Pilates in addition to the Pilates Movement Principles. The components of fitness are Muscular Strength, Muscular endurance, Cardiovascular strength, Flexibility, and Body Mass. The Pilates Principles by Joseph Pilates are Control, Concentration, Balanced Muscle Development, Breathing, Centering, Rhythm/flow, Whole Body Movement, and Relaxation.
Spiritual training combined with nutrition management is also included at SSBB Pilates if you choose to participate in Faith + Nutrition (coming soon). Through the cross that Jesus died on and came back to life, we are given eternal life. The faith we have must be trained daily just as our body needs trained and to move daily. No one will live a perfect life in this lifetime so this is not about showing up perfect. Our spiritual training helps us to have faith to believe in what Jesus can do for us and through us. This is more than believing He existed, it’s training mind to see how He is showing up in our lives daily through the Holy Spirit. I have a list of ways He has used me and answered my prayers. It’s pretty awesome to look back at all of it everyday and see it wasn’t a coincidence. Remembering and renewing our mind everyday with what He has done in the past, will build our faith strength. We are facing spiritual battles daily and just as we need a strong body for our daily physical battles, we need a strong spirit to fight those battles.
I am also a Certified Mental Health Coach. Our mind is very powerful and we can train our mind just like we can train everything else in our body. Our mind is included in our soul, which encompasses our emotions, feelings, conscience, fear/anxiety, and everyday decisions. I incorporate mental health coaching during our movement sessions, primarily through encouragement. Helping you to think more positively about your abilities and not letting your inabilities identify who you are. Too often we get caught up in the negative instead of looking at all the positive things around us and in us.
At SSBB Pilates you will be encouraged to Cross Train Everyday…you get to choose how you do it.
Yes! The Teaser pose of the outlined person represents Pilates, the barbell making the leg of the person represents the strength training I encourage as a Personal Trainer, the heart with a cross in it represents spiritual training, the brain is the mental training that is done in Pilates, the triangle represents Spirit. Soul. Body. Balanced, in addition to Father, Son, Holy Spirit, the enlarged purple cross represents the cross training we can do spiritually, in our soul, and body at SSBB Pilates.
Purple and green are great colors, they also hold meaning. Purple is a sign of royalty (also the same school color of my alma mater, K-State University) and used in the church to represent Jesus as the King. In addition, purple is associated with mystery, creativity, wisdom, and spirituality. Green represents balance, rebirth, renewing, growth, learning, and harmony. It can create a calm and peaceful feeling in your body.
